Our Keynote speaker: Prof. Dr. Ozgur Demirtas
K. Ozgur Demirtas was born in Ankara. He completed his primary school education in the county of Salihli in Manisa. He went on to finish his middle and high school studies in Izmir. He scored in the top 50 on the Turkish college placement exam. He successfully graduated from the Bogazici University Electric and Electronic Engineering department.
Differing from his major, he completed a five year doctorate in the field of Finance, earning the title of doctor by the age of 27 (year 2003) at Boston College, USA.
He earned the title of assistant professor in 2003, beginning his career at the Baruch College City University of New York. Also in the year 2003, he was elected as the best lecturer of the Finance department. This was followed by his election as the best lecturer of the Faculty of Management in 2004. In 2005, he was elected the best lecturer out of all departments as well as faculties, receiving his "Medal of Outstanding Instruction" at Madison Square Garden. In the year of 2012, he received the highest evaluation of curricula from the Finance Department of New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business.
His work was published in the chief academic magazines around the globe (Journal of Monetary Economics, Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis & Journal of Business Economic and Statistics). He took place in over 25 academic broadcasts. His book was accepted for publishing by Elsevier. His research was rewarded by City University of New York for 6 years, starting in 2004.
By the age of 31 (year 2007), he received the title of Associate Professor as well as the right to work at the City University of New York until the end of his life and not be discontinued.
In 2010, he received offers from Sabanci University to become a professor as well as the Chairman of Finance in the Faculty of Management. In the same year, he was deemed to be in the top 20 professors out of 1 million others from the USA, England, Canada and Scotland by over 10 million student accounts.
In the September of 2012, he abandoned his previously earned rights in the City University of New York and joined the faculty of Sabanci University as the Chairman of Finance. Once again in 2012, he received the Marie Curie Research Fund. His project, worth 100,000 Euros, became the only project in the field of economy in all of Turkey to be supported by the AB during the application process.
Prof. Dr. Ozgur Demirtas has also accepted positions as a member of the Board of Founders in Turkey's first Savings and Financial Literacy Association as well as the consultant of other associations such as TUGIAD, TAYSAD and DASK.
