ACIMGE 2018 Crisis Theme Letter
This year, we will be simulating Europe in 2020.
The crisis theme of this year’s ACIMGE will revolve around the concerns regarding today’s ethnic minority group crises surrounding Europe and their effects on the operational aspects of European governments. Today’s lack of unity and understanding within diverse ethnic groups and the absence of respect shown to different cultures have invoked negative impact on the peace of the European community. Ethnic minorities are striving to gain recognition by member states and establish authority in claimed land.
The uproar that took place in Spain concerning the Catalonian independence movement has sparked further riots in various European countries, consequently the EU has had to take immediate measures in order to seek resolutions and tackle the issue. From minorities in France, Belgium, Greece to the Netherlands, Germany and many more countries, there is a general uprising and a serious demand for independence or at least autonomy.
The accelerating increase in uprisings led by ethnic minorities widespread in Europe will encourage governments and the EU to ensure regional security and political stability. Ministers will be asked to resolve the movements arising from protests of ethnic minority groups by taking into consideration the influence and effect of these acts aiming to obtain governmental recognition on matters such as: defense, employment and social policy, justice, home affairs, education, foreign affairs, economic and financial affairs, human rights and more. Therefore it is crucial to administer the issue at hand with great care and gentleness.
Ministers of this year’s ACIMGE will be expected to balance EU values and the integrity of member states while responding to the issues in addition to displaying their skills to comprehend complications and eliminate the potentially destructive consequences of the crises that jeopardize the peace and harmony of Europe.
